Friends were a term that Zack did not lack. Generally, he seemed to be an overall very likable person. He had friends who he could really relate to, others just kept themselves out of the drama that seemed to infest New York City, and then there was Avalynn. Over the past year she had become possibly his closest confidant. He was even considering taking a yoga class with her and if anyone had come across Zack from time to time, could probably agree, they would pay a lot of money to see Zack do yoga. You could picture Zack tossing the pig skin, running a treadmill, or parking himself in front of the television to watch the Seattle Seahawks play.
If Avalynn wanted him to accompany her in yoga though, he was willing to sacrifice embarrassment for her. He just enjoyed seeing her happy, and anyone for that matter. Zack always felt he was obligated to protect and help people if they were in need of it. He gained that attribute from his mother. She was always such a gentle, caring soul. He let out a soft sigh as he thought about her. He hated to think about his parents because he easily became depressed. He didn’t want to seem upset when he was meeting Avalynn. Zack was always very skilled at covering his emotions if he was on edge.
Zack never told anyone he sometimes suffered from depression. With the absence of his older brother for two years, someone who was his best friend and the death of his parents- Zack had battled a lot. He handled the depression well though. He was strong enough to resist turning to drugs or drinking. He worked out instead. Turned his animosity to the gym and released his stress. He knew it was healthy for anyone to have a positive outlet because everyone has some inner battle that roots from their childhood. Everyone has their demons from their past, their inner struggles. Avalynn always made him feel better though. Made him smile and laugh which was why she was one of his very close friends. Zack generally always had a positive outlook on life aside from his parent’s death. They would want him to be happy and successful in life- not depressed. Zack was not going to upset them. He also wanted to be a positive remodel for his younger brother. He knew how much Ace looked up to him.
Zack entered the restaurant slowly and looked at the wall clock. He was early, Avalynn would here shortly. He always got excited to see her and just to spend time with her. Her company was always a breath of fresh air for him. He looked at the waiter who motioned for him to choose an empty table. He took the usual corner booth. He looked at the menu, not very hungry. He would get his usual, the salad. Some people felt he ate to healthy, but Zack just loved feeling healthy and fit. It was important to him. He really came just to spend time with Avalynn though. He smiled as he watched her appear through the door. She looked as she always did to him- gorgeous.

put my lips on your mouth, keep you comingAROUND CAUSE I LIKE IT, PUT YOUR HANDS ON MY HIPS. TAKE ME DOWN Ava didn't know when the crush on Zack developed. Sometimes she thought it started on day one, the very first day she laid eyes on him. It wasn't love at first sight, it was more like spark at first sight. Something about him drew her toward him. She felt like they were magnets pulling toward one another but slowly. They were creeping together painstakingly slow, much too slow disappointingly. She had always known that their chemistry was the perfect recipe for something spectacular but she just couldn't bring herself to test it further. They grew to be close friends and she didn't want to ruin that. Well, that was half her argument anyways. The other half she had only explained to Hannah. People didn't understand her need for space after her last relationship ended on a sour note. She was still upset that she had given the relationship her all and it had fell to pieces. Not to mention that it had been her first serious relationship and that after she had given up her virginity, everything changed. She felt betrayed, hurt, sad and altogether pretty shitty but she never let that on. Most of the time she was her carefree self until she had time to really sit down and think about it. She didn't like to dwell on negative things but sometimes you cant help but replay a situation over and over wishing that there was some way you could change it. But despite all that had happened to her she was glad about one thing that had come out of all the pain she experienced and that was Zack. If he hadn't been there that day she came into the gym and tripped over a towel left in the aisle she wouldn't have the amazing friend she had now. He was the perfect gentleman and came to take a look at her knee. It was then, when he was bending over her with concern radiating off him that she felt a jolt. That was only the beginning.
Months later, here she was on her way to dinner with him. She never suspected that it was anything more than two friends going out together but she still danced around her room when he asked. She would pretend like it wasn't a date but deep down she desperately hoped that he was only hiding his feelings like she was and that he felt the same way she did. Ava couldn't ever know for sure but she liked to comfort herself with the fact that Zack responded well to her flirting. He seemed to like their cuddle sessions and movie nights. Her head was spinning after thinking about it for a while. They did a lot of things that could be deemed as "flirty" or "date" material but at the same time anyone could make it a friendly activity. She sighed, frustrated, by this. Ava ran a brush through her blonde hair. She had just hopped out of the shower about an hour ago and was finishing up her make up and hair. She decided to wear a pretty blue sun dress and curl her hair. She wanted to look her best. Maybe it might entice him into giving her some kind of sign. She definitely did not want to ruin a good friendship over something silly as misinterpretation. She ran the brush through her hair once again before heating her curling iron. She didn't know why she wanted him to like her so much. It wasn't like they could be a successful couple. She was determined to keep this from working, but yet at the same time wanted it to work out. It kept her mind reeling all day and kept her completely confused about what she wanted.
Avalynn fiddled with her hair and once she was finished curling it everything was set and ready to go. She picked up her puse and slung it over her arm. Her heels were already strapped onto her feet and she realized as she stared at the clock that she was going to be late if she didn't leave. She hurried out her bedroom door, down the stairs and out the door to her car. When she arrived at the small restaurant she entered and found Zack sitting by himself and staring at the menu. She walked over to the table and sat down across from him. "Hey there!" she greeted him cheerfully. She set her purse down beside her on the booth and picked up the menu that was laid in front of her. "I'm starving." She realized that she was in fact very hungry.
only want to be wanted by you

Zack watched now as Avalynn placed her purse down and took a seat across from him in the booth. It was not secret that Zack’s feelings for Avalynn went beyond just friendship. He was not sure what made his feelings progress for her and grow so strongly. Maybe it was the length of their friendship. Possibly, her personality that radiated through, it also may have something slightly to do with the fact that she was absolutely breath taking to him… or too anyone for that matter. Maybe it was even a combination of all three. She was a model, of course. You could make that generalization within ten seconds of seeing her. Her genetic makeup was born for the sole purpose of modeling and nothing else. Her piercing blue eyes along with her combination of cascading blonde hair were memorizing. Sure, he modeled too but even with that in consideration, he never felt he was good enough for Avalynn. She was the complete package to him, but he knew her feelings for him could never have possibly progressed past the friendship they had now. He wondered if he made it obvious his feelings toward her. According to Alex, he had made it more than clear that his feelings for were more than what you acquired with your best friend. He loved her. He tended to flirt with her a lot, but he was certain she never thought much of it. They had been friends for so long; it had almost become second nature.
Avalynn could have any guy she yearned for. She could have a brooding bachelor, a filthy rich surgeon, god she could even have prince charming if she wanted. He was not sure exactly what barrier was holding him back from telling her his real feelings. It was not simple task spending so much time with someone you were as close to as he was to Ava but yet not being able to act on and express those true feeling for that person. It was possibly the fear of rejection. No man wanted his ego chopped down three sizes even though Zack’s ego was non-existence. The fear of rejection held a lot of guys back from asking out woman like Avalynn. They are intimidating and it seemed a lot of women were oblivious to the fact that men really do have a fear of rejection. It is a completely different set of circumstances if you don’t like the women beyond a one night hookup, but Ava was not that to him in the slightest bit. Zack never looked at a girl as a piece of meat. He was about having a committed relationship to him. Zack knew in the back of his mind the real sole purpose beyond anything else for not telling Avalynn how he felt was based on the fact that he did not want to destroy the friendship. Zack would rather have her in his life as a friend then not have her in it at all. He could not even fathom not having Avalynn in his life. It would be selfish to say that if he could not have all of Avalynn then he did not want her at all. Sure if was hard on Zack, but life was hard. We don’t always get what we want out of it. Their friendship was closer than it had ever been in the past, if he said something, nothing would ever be the same. As the old tale goes- Once you date your best friend, they will never be your best friend again.
Zack looked across at her now and smiled. Her piercing blue eyes were enough to get lost in. “Why hello.” he responded, a grin remaining on his face. He always was completely relaxed when he was with Avalynn. All the other shit going on in his life didn’t seem to matter as much. “I hear you there; I am starving but order whatever you like, my treat.” That was Zack, always insisting he pay. Sometimes he got taken advantage of for being as generous as he was. Not by Avalynn of course, but in his past he was familiar with it. He glanced over the menu one more time and finally closed it, satisfied. Takeing one quick glance around there was still no sign of the waiter. “So what have you been up to lately? Any incidents to report?” Curiosity sparking a sudden interest. He gave her a half grin. Inside part of him was screaming just tell her already but he shook the voice from his head.
