Stressed wasn’t exactly the right way to phrase how Hadley was feeling at the moment. It was a close description, but probably not the most accurate term. Panicky? Yes. That sounded better. Hadley had completely forgotten that tonight was her mother’s birthday, such a wonderful daughter right? Hah. She obviously was not going to be winning any child of the year awards. The worst part was that Hadley seriously had no idea how she could have forgotten her own mother’s birthday…especially since she was turning fifty. Regardless of how or why she managed to forget, she knew that she needed to figure out what she could do to make up for it. Of course, she managed to remember before her mother noticed that she had forgotten (thank goodness), but not in enough time to actually buy a decent gift. Sighing to herself, Hadley could not push off the feeling of anger she felt when she realized that neither her father nor her siblings had thought it would be appropriate to remind her of her mother’s birthday. Thanks guys, really. Was it really that hard to remind someone? Whatever, it really was getting too late to freak out over something that could no longer be changed. Not knowing what else to do, Hadley pulled out her cell phone and sent Madison a text message:
”roomieeeee! i need youuuu =(“
That sounded desperate enough. Hadley was hopeful that Madison would know what to do because she really didn’t know how she could fix this mess. In another burst of frustration Hadley threw herself on her bed and buried her face into one of her pillows. If all else went wrong she would just take a nap, pretend to be sick, and tell her mom that she had planned an elaborate birthday dinner that she just could not go through with because she wasn’t feeling well. That would sound reasonable enough. Well, it would sound reasonable if there were any evidence in the house that Hadley had actually intended to cook anything. She could go shopping? With another groan Hadley rolled over onto her side and covered her face with her hands. She wanted Madison to rush in and come up with a plan that would not have Hadley looking like the world’s worst daughter. Hadley forced herself out of her bed and over to her desk. She had decided to Google ideas about what she could do for her mother’s birthday on such short notice. Then again…if she had been paying any attention to a calendar at all she would not be in this situation in the first place. After literally ten minutes searching online something clicked with Hadley. It was like one of those moments where people say the light bulb goes off, you know? Anyway, Hadley suddenly thought of something she could do for her mom to salvage the wasted birthday. It was so simple that she really could not figure out why she had not thought of it before. She could make her a cake – duh. How hard could that possibly be? All she needed was like…cake making stuff. Alright, so Hadley was not exactly the best in the kitchen, but she was sure she would be able to make something that tasted good. Oh! And she wanted to make something completely home made, no boxed mixes because that would be so much less personal. Hadley may have been overestimating her culinary ability a bit, but if she got into any real trouble she could always try and find one of the culinary students. So really there shouldn’t be any problems. A simple search for a cake recipe should solve any problems she might have. Hadley quickly changed her search from birthday gifts to cake recipes. Wow. She was going to need a lot more than she thought if she wanted to make something from scratch. Because Hadley knew her mom loved red velvet cake that was the recipe she chose. Unfortunately, the only thing Hadley had that was on the list of ingredients was the red food coloring – she had used it while dying Easter eggs. Hadley really never had much of a reason to cook which really was holding her back now. She needed Madison. Now. Where was that girl anyway? Hadley was not usually a very needy girl, but at the moment she was…well, how she put it before – she was panicking. Although Hadley really knew that her mother would love her no matter what (she would probably even enjoy Hadley not remembering her birthday so she could still say she was forty-nine) Hadley still felt really bad about it. It wasn’t like her mom had ever forgotten her birthday. Hah. That would probably be hard to do considering she was the one who had to give birth. Hadley imagined that it would be next to impossible to forget something that painful. There. Another reason why Hadley should make sure to make her mother’s fiftieth birthday special – without her, Hadley wouldn’t even exist. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - tag;; madison henderson <33 [/blockquote][/blockquote]

It wasn't often when Madison actually went out on her own. She usually liked to be around people and have someone to talk to as she ran her errands or went of pointless shopping trips which she would probably get in trouble for later. Maddie had a bit of a spending problem which apparently everyone but herself knew about. Not that her parents really watched her spending. They were rolling in money and a few Prada purses wasn't going to set them back very much. But now being in south Dakota was totally a different thing. To Madison, she considered it to be in the middle of no where. Then again she hailed from New York and these two states were obviously as different as it could possibly get. Her dream was to become a successful model, then again so was just about half the school's. Madison could have taken the easy road and just used her parent's connections to get what she wanted. It wouldn't have been much work. Just a few calls and she'd be on her way to sign a contract, but a bigger part of her wanted to do this the hard way and work for it just like everyone else. Her friends back home would have called her crazy, which was kind of true. Madison was like her own kind of crazy.
Madison took a look at the growing pile of shopping bags she had and then to the pile of clothes that she was currently holding. She knew that she wasn't going to be able to hold any more as it was so she figured this would be a good place to stop with the excessive and unneeded spending. After all Madison was sure that a majority of the things she had bought today would never see the light of day again. Her grandfather would always scold her for being so careless with money. Yet that never stopped him from buying Madison her favorite accessories: Jeweled headbands. For as long as she could remember Granddaddy gave her one every time something big happened in her life. But it had been a while now. He had died almost two years ago. She could easily say that he was one of the closest relative she had. Sure her parents had always been there for her but it just simply wasn't the same. But she hated being a sob story so Madison never really talked about it to begin with. It's not like it was anybody elses business. Her personal life was, well her personal life. Not something that she wanted exploited for others entertainment. Sure other girls at this school loved to have the life written all over the bathroom walls.
Madison groaned as her phone began to vibrate in her pocket, with her hands full she knew getting it would be a little bit of a challenge. Then again it was only a text she had some time. It's not like she had anything else to do anymore. Why bother spending more money, she had no purpose for this stuff. She put her stuff down on the counter and one of the sales lady began to ring up all her things.. Madison on the other hand grabbed her phone and flipped it open, a text from Hadley waiting to be opened. She couldn't help but laugh a little, emergency text messages were definitely a Hadley thing. She was gladly that her room mate could rely on her for things, they understood each other and always had each others backs in a moment of need. A few moments later Madison received her things and was quickly back on her way to the dorms.
”what happened!? I'll be there asap.”
It didn't take very long for Madison to arrive back to St. Thomas grounds. Which Madison was sure that Hadley would be happy about. She could only imagine what kind of problem Hadley had, but she was sure it was going to be urgent. Just as soon as she was about to go int her dorm she was distracted. Hey! Hold up! Madison heard a guy's voice from behind her, she turned and saw him running up to her with what looked like one of the shopping bags that she was holding not that long ago. Here you dropped this He handed her the bag before waving and going back to.. well wherever he came from to begin with. “Thank you!” Madison said, not even sure if he would be able to hear her any more. However, Maddie continued what she was doing at that was: reporting for what appeared to be an SOS from her roomie. ”Hadley! I'm back.. You know, people in South Dakota are so nice.” She dropped the bags by the door and went to find Hadley. ”What's the problem Hads!? [/blockquote][/blockquote]

While still sitting at her laptop Hadley heard her cell phone vibrate on her bed. Crossing her fingers that it might be Madison to the rescue, she stood up from her desk and made her way over to the bed – plopping herself down as she grabbed her phone to read her newest text message. Thank goodness. She knew that she could always count on her fabulous roomie to help her out of horribly messy situations. But really, Madision did not even know what the problem was and she already said that she was on her way back to the dorm as soon as she could be. That alone was enough relief to Hadley. Even though she had already figured out how she was going to try and solve the whole ‘sorry mom, I forgot your birthday’ thing, it was definitely nice to know that Maddie would be there to help out…especially since Hadley alone in the kitchen was a dangerous thing. For a moment Hadley considered replying to the text, however, she decided that because Madison was already on her way back that it would probably be better just to explain the situation in person. Plus, it would definitely sound a lot less dramatic.
Now somewhat at ease with her plans, Hadley placed her cell phone back down on the bed as she got up to venture back over to her computer so she could print out the ingredients list for the red velvet cake. The list was a little long, but she was confident that it would not take too long to buy everything. In fact, she even considered texting several of the other students on campus to see if they had any of the ingredients. Hadley quickly through that idea out because she realized that asking a bunch of people for the same list of things would probably result in four dozen eggs and no flour…or some other odd mix like that. Basically it was just going to be easier if she and Madison made a run to the grocery store. After all, shopping was always regardless of what it was for. Those were Hadley’s thoughts at least. But seriously, how could shopping ever be bad? Alright – maybe if you had to go shopping with your grandmother at a flea market it could be a little less than thrilling, but in general shopping was always a positive experience. In all honesty Hadley was actually a little excited about baking her mom a cake. Even though she knew it might not turn out perfect she figured it would at least be cute and hopefully tasty. Just then Hadley heard the door open and she bounced off her bed so she could go greet Madison.
”Hadley! I'm back.. You know, people in South Dakota are so nice.”
Alright, fabulous. Hadley was glad that people in South Dakota are nice but that really was the farthest thing from her mind at the moment. “What? Girly, you're so random,”
she commented as she finally saw Madison coming into view. That was when Hadley took notice of all the shopping bags by the door. Wow. Madison seemed to have already done a fair share/incredible amount of shopping for the day. But somehow Hadley did not doubt that she would be up for a little more – especially since it would end with a tasty treat. ”What’s the problem Hads!?” Right. The problem. Hadley had done so much thinking about her current issue that she really had not figured out how she was going to explain it now that Madison was here. She just wanted to spit out the truth and her potential solution, but somehow she thought that might make her sound like a really bad daughter. Whatever. The sooner she said something the sooner they could do something about it. “Well it’s sort of my mom’s birthday and the genius over here,” she stated, gesturing to herself, “may have forgotten all about it and now has nothing to give as a gift.” Hadley was satisfied with that brief description. Oh wait! She completely forgot to explain that she really did have a solution in mind. That was probably the most important detail because that was the part that she now needed Madison’s help with. “It’s okay though. I want to try and make my mom a red velvet cake and I’ll give it to her at dinner tonight. The only problem is we don’t have the ingredients and I kind of might be a little bit of a cooking hazard.” Now that was sufficient. Hadley knew that Madison would definitely be able to help with the groceries part. As for the cooking? Well Hadley was not convinced that either of them were exactly safe in kitchen but together they couldn’t make that much of a mess, right? Hopefully. [/blockquote][/blockquote]
