Aidan liked being at the park, as long as it was night time. During the day, the place was just another boring park. He felt this way about all parks, really. He didn't appreciate the darkness in other place, but here, it was pleasant. The only light was coming from the fountain, where there were small bulbs circling the inside. It made the water look especially crisp and blue, compared to all the dark surroundings. This wasn't the first time he'd come to the park, at night, to sit around the edge of the fountain and reflect on the days events. It was actually one of the only places in this world where he didn't feel scared, or fake, or rushed to do anything. He could just sit and state- and that was okay.
But tonight, he wasn't alone. He was with Bailee, one of the closest friends he'd ever had, even in his first life. She was always everything he could ever ask for. But they were only friends- even though, most of the time, Aidan wished they were more than friends. They never did more than kiss each other on the cheek, hug, or hold hands. That was just normal behavior between the two of them. To people on the outside looking in, it probably did seem like they were a couple. But again, Aidan only wished that. He wasn't sure of how she felt, but he kind of assumed she didn't want to be more than friends. It was just a little vibe he got from her.
With a smile, he reached out and took Bailee's delicate hand between the two of his. He gave it a little squeeze, then let himself lace his fingers between hers. Neither of them had really been saying anything for a while. They were just staring at the water, listening to the distant sound of the ocean. In the real world, they might have been watching fire flies or something, but here, there were no animals. No squirrels, no bugs, no fish. It was definitely something weird to get used to, especially when one tried to figure out where the meat for their food came from. But Sally at the diner just laughed whenever someone asked. It was food, and it was good, so why even wonder? Aidan stopped wondering a long time ago.
Aidan sighed, shifting his position slightly and turning his gaze to look at this girl. She looked like such an angel in the dim lighting, and a wave of pity and sadness did fill his stomach. She'd died so young, so innocent, so unfairly. A long, long road of suffering. It almost made Aidan's own death seem simple. She was prepared, she probably knew it was coming. Aidan had no idea. He sighed again, giving her hand another squeeze. He wanted her to look at him. He wanted to see into her beautiful, dark eyes.
