he had met nix when he had first got here. he was painfully shy and even more painfully goofy. and even though nix didn't fit the shy parameter he found her quite goofy, something he happened to like actually. the two are compatible friends, sometimes being downright immature and always in a public place. in a way it was like nix was the more confident side - the unpredictable side - of tyler and he happened to to be the quieter, more studious of the two. in any conquest they evened each other out and in that case they found their friendship blossoming wholesomely. he found himself laughing around her, being entirely more clumsy, and generally being himself. it was a nice difference from the masquerade mask he wore around the rest of woodside academy, like he had taken off an too tight shoe and slipping it into a more comfortable slipper. it was good, it was new.
and for some reason phoenix was one of his only friends, because if it wasn't for her outgoing personality he probably wouldn't have been talking to her. and as he stood fidgeting at the granite counter he shot her an gentle smile, his bitten down nails tapping on the counter top along with his feet. he was a huge music junkie and the jazz in the coffeehouse was worming its way into his mind as he allowed a calming smile to cross his handsome face once more. he could feel the protective glare over her face as she glanced over him, he knew that if someone had come across him she would lay them down flatter than a flat roller would smooth down the asphalt. he didn't know what made her so.. protective over him but he didn't mind. he wanted to be equal protective over her and even if some word rang out against her he had a feeling he would stand and have his say against them. he wasn't going to put up with shit when it came up to his best friend, he wouldn't stand up for himself but he would end up standing up for nix.
tyler blushed as she spoke about staying in, deep and claret as he brought the cup up to his slender lips and sipped the bitter liquid before wrinkling his nose. eyes trained downward at the outward circles that expanded to the circumference of the cup before disappearing into complete oblivion once more. "oh... uh.. sorry..." gently grabbing his bottom lip into his teeth he continued to raise the cup once more and sip at the quickly cooling liquid. he had always said the wrong things at the absolutely wrong times and this was no obsession. even if she had looked tired - like she had been partying out for some time - (then again, why would they be having coffee right now? it wasn't even noon.) but no she had been cracking the books much like he had been - much like he was always doing. smiling again and catching her gaze with his own he allowed one crooked smile to mar his face as he teased her lightly. "you know you didn't have to pain yourself with that, i could have come over and helped." he raised an eyebrow, hands wiping the hair from his eyes as he twiddled his hands over the steaming Styrofoam cup. honestly he probably would have come over and done it for her though he knew nix would hand him some self liberating speech onto how she was so inclined to do it herself.
which he didn't mind but either way he would have came and helped her or something, really the two found any excuse for goofing off with each other so it must had been some serious report if she wanted to do it herself... or maybe he had unknowingly passed her off because he had to study. feeling his heart beat quicken in his chest tyler smoothed a hand through his ratty hair and sipped again, attempting to calm the tightening in his stomach. as she said something about it being saturday he chuckled lightly and shook his head. "welcome to the world before twelve am." he teased lightly, his chocolate brown eyes scanning the cafe. it had swelled in size since he had sat down and as he watched the hustle and bustle of the oblivious shoppers around him. that was one thing tyler liked to do, people watch. and as he folded his arms, the cup off to the side as he watched her head bob in a sign of exhaustion he flashed her a reassuring smile as he patted her hand on the table. blushing gently as she said he looked fresh faced for the day. "thanks, i try and keep it up." smiling playfully he sent her a signature eyebrow wiggle which sent him into a dorky laughter fit.
suddenly snapping to attention tyler actually snapped his fingers and got an interested look on his face which suddenly turned to curiosity as he refolded his arms tighter around his scantly muscled bodice. "don't you have a job to go to?!" an bemused expression covered his face as he wiped absent-mindly wiped away some crumbs left on the table, his knee bouncing underneath it as he uncurled one hand to grip the cup and sip once more. his eyes meandering before straying back to her and raising an eyebrow in question, he happened to be quite expressive in his face and today was no different. though as the traffic through the cafe quickly increased he felt like a mosquito, or that tyler and nix were stuck on some deserted island together. which he didn't mind, all he needed was good coffee and good company to make himself completely content in the world.
