That city- oh how he was tired of being confined in that horrid city by the ocean! Everyday it grew more and more difficult to keep himself locked up in that wretched room in the Inn. Everyday his heart begged more and more to return to the place where it was created- the place where it truly belonged. His soul yearned to be in the waves of the cool sea and to feel the sands at the bottom of the ocean and to find small treasures on the ocean’s floor. Every bit of his being felt like it was dying inside and being strapped down. It was like he was trapped. He wasn’t truly sure how much longer he could discipline himself either. Everything about the land was beginning to cause more distress to his already uptight and miserable mood. He knew that he really shouldn’t walk all the way down the cliffs and over toward the shore though. He would be tempted to jump in and he was trying to confine himself so the tortured wound in his side would close up faster. He had already turned the thing into many shades of purples and reds because of how long it had adorned his side. Nita had made it clear plenty of times to him that it was an eyesore and tiring to see him with it. Which annoyed him a bit since- well it wasn’t really her business and she had those disgusting bruises up and down her legs from being human so often. Keto’s skin was still soft and practically untouched looking on his human legs. They had also strengthened a good deal after the many days he had spent on shore. He was actually used to walking with them. That was a true miracle all alone but he would only have to learn all over again after coming from the ocean. He would much rather swim than walk.
Oh, he was bad today. He was going to do what he had been working so hard not to do for many days now. It was time to break his streak and get in a moment of sanity before he ended up strangling the next human being that he saw. He doubted that would go over very nicely and considering his state he was not completely sure how well that would work out for him at all. It was best if he did go see the ocean. It truly was… it meant no human casualties for the time being.
The merman turned human threw on the only pair of human clothing that he had acquired on his journey to the city. A loose gray shirt tied lightly around the waist by a sash and kept as open as possible around the neck (he hated clothing with a passion and needed as much space from it as possible at times). Then of course came the annoying trousers that always felt too tight around his limber legs. Oh, the boots were beginning to feel too tight as well, but they went on as well, despite his strong dislike for them. Going about naked was apparently frowned upon in this society because he had not seen one person do it. Then again, Keto had never seen humans walking around each other in the nude. He supposed it was because they couldn’t go hiding their bits and pieces very easily. It made him appreciate his kind even more- they got to enjoy the freedom of wearing basically nothing. They didn’t much care for modesty either in the ocean. Everything was good and nobody really cared. Here, however… well that was a completely different story.
The walk down to the shores of Runa was long and hard. He was accustom to the walking and jumping about now but his side ached like it hadn’t ached in many years. His stomach also growled and screeched at him all the way since he hadn’t eaten anything proper. Whatever infection he had gotten seemed to affect his eating pattern and what stayed in his stomach. So, naturally, he was quite hungry. And hungry and tired were two things that never mixed very well. Not for Keto at least. Especially when he was already upset with where he was and what he was forced to be wearing. As soon as his boots had hit the sand and sunk in, a wave of relief rushed over him and his lungs took in a long deep breath of salty, fresh ocean air. Good Runa, it felt so damned good to be right at the sea again. His toes wriggled in his shoes, begging to change back to flippers so he could go back to where he belonged. His brain begged to differ, keeping him right up on the shore only able to long for the ocean’s cool waters.
This moment couldn’t be any more perfect though. It felt like reuniting with an old friend. Some may have found that ridiculous since it was only the ocean. But take a human out to the ocean and he was sure they would be longing for the land and practically be kissing every inch of it as soon as they were back on their homeland.
Actually, this moment could have been even more perfect. How so? Well, try taking the human out of the picture. No, not him (he was really a merman after all). There was a human girl sitting on the shores, doing whatever it was human’s did here. It annoyed him a bit, making his lip twitch downward with dismay. Hadn’t he dealt with enough of them? This was ocean, not land. Well, the shore was land but really did she have to be here pouting now? Keto snorted, turning his head away, letting the wind blast through his dark hair as he closed his eyes. Then a very light murmur came from his throat.
“Stupid humans.”
