She had absolutely nothing to do today, and that was sad. She really didn't have much of a life. What was a girl to do? She'd taken a few pictures, but she had no inspiration at all. Her creative side was taking a vacation, and she wondered what she could do to bring it back. Maybe she just needed to go back to the studio at school and develop photos she already had. But that wasn't nearly as much fun as taking them. Avery sighed to herself. She wasn't getting anywhere. Her eyes landed on some large rocks at the edge of the water, and she headed toward them. There were tiny pieces of grass in between them. She held her camera up to her face and peeked through the lens. Immediately, she pressed the top button and took three pictures. Smiling to herself, she looked at them on her screen. They weren't bad, and if she could add some kind of effect to them, they would be gorgeous. At least the day hadn't been a total waste.
She straightened up and walked back toward the pavement that circled around the entire lake. As she walked, she subconsciously put one foot directly in front of the other, walking a straight line. Her coordination wasn't the best, and she started to lose her balance. She held her arms out slightly and kept her eyes down, not looking where she was going. This was a bad idea, and before she knew it, she was slamming right into someone. She nearly fell over, and her grip on her camera loosened. She sighed with relief when she realized she hadn't dropped it. It was her entire life, and she couldn't afford another one. Her brain finally reminded her that she'd just run right into someone, and she hadn't even apologized yet. How rude. She lifted her head and started speaking. "Oh god, I'm sorry. I didn't see you." Her face burned a little, signaling a blush, and she kicked herself. Right now she probably looked like a total idiot.

It just seemed like one of those days for Oliver. Another day to be shunned, another day to go unnoticed. It killed him every time someone forgot his name or who he was. Four years of being out of the spotlight had done him a notorious wrong. This was steadied as he sat up from his laying position at Abby Lake. Somehow the place always calmed him when he thought and worried too much about his social life, he would think about it momentarily then just get lost in the atmosphere of his surroundings. He let out a weak sigh as he stretched, hearing a pop from a cracking bone in his left arm. he bent down and gathered his bag and started to head off.
He stepped up to the pavement figuring he'd take a walk while he was there. He trotted along casually for a while taking in the sights. The animals around seemed to be going through their morning rituals, eating and sleeping. Oliver chuckled a little to himself when he thought of that as the dream life, not a care of social hierarchy, just living for each day for the sole purpose of living. While he was in this thought he collided with someone making him take a step back for a moment but caught the unknown girl in his arms. wow...shes... he thought before he noticed that she was talking. He made out her apology but before she could finish he jumped right into the conversation "It's quite alright, I wasn't watching where I was going so don't take all the blame" he said, delighted that he didn't stumble over a word or stutter or any other loser action he could make.
He noticed the camera in her hands. A tourist? or a photography major....I'm an idiot a photography major would make more sense he mentally kicked himself for his slightly idiotic thought before letting his words escape "Photography, right?" he tried his best act at being cool. He felt his nerdy actor days deserve to be put behind him. it is his senior year after all and everyone could use a change.

She'd seen a lot of guys before, but this one knocked her breathless. He was incredibly good looking. She told herself to stay calm. The last thing she needed was to come off as a total loser with horrible balance. After a minute or so, her brain told her that he'd just finished talking. And yet she was still staring at him. Another blush covered her face. "Photography, right?" She nodded her head. "Um...yeah. I was taking pictures of the lake," she said, breaking eye contact with him for the first time. She realized what she'd just said and held back a sigh. Of course she was taking pictures of the lake. Why else would she be here with a camera? Anyone with half a brain could have figured that one out.
Her eyes met his again, and by now her blush had faded away. He was still holding her from when she'd fallen over. She stepped back slightly. "Do you...you go to St. Thomas too, right?" she asked. He looked about the same age as her, and she figured that since he knew about her photography, he had to go to the same school. Then again, she was assuming, and she could have been totally wrong, although it wouldn't have been the first time. Shaking her head, she turned her attention back to him. They didn't know each other's names. "I'm Avery," she said, holding out her hand.

Oliver smiled widely at this. It was a little funny that he found someone as nervous as him in a moment like this. He was minorly stunned by it actually. He let out a little chuckle "I'm sorry, it's jut a little funny that you say that...but not in an 'I'm making fun of you' way! More like a 'I'm joking along with you' way...hehe...yeah" he nervously stated. And once again you ruin it Oliver he thought and tried to calm himself down. The scene was already perfect for them. Perfect weather and no one else around, it was perfect privacy. It was like he was granted this opportunity by the forces beyond. He truly appreciated the chance he was getting. He couldn't just let him self screw it up. This girl was possibly the most beautiful girl he'd ever met in his life and he couldn't just let the opportunity pass him by. He had to do something, he had to take the chance....but he settle for not doing it today. He was still too shaken up from just meeting her.
Her words ran threw his head fast as lightning. Answer you idiot answer, your just staring at her! he scolded himself mentally as he whelped up an answer "Sch-yeah, yeah I do!" he answered and his heart began to beat faster as he heard her name "Avery.....I'm Oliver" he greeted himself extending his hand to shake to her with a charming grin. He felt like a kindergarten kid whom just met his first friend. He never thought he'd have an instant crush but he couldn't freak her out. Spouting I think your the most beautiful girl in the world, please be my girlfriend! would just be plain weird. Plus far too bold for the social outcast do perform.
He examined her closer, staring into her eyes and seeing his reflection. He always wanted to be there, it was the most calming place he could be. He swallowed roughly when he noticed he had been staring right at her for the longest time. He looked upwards and ran a hand threw the back of his hair pretending to look around at the sky with a 'lovely weather were having' impression about him. Yet his eyes still found a way to look back down to her. He felt so nerdy around her, it was uncontrollable for him.

Even his teeth were perfect. It seemed impossible, but that's exactly what he was: perfect. His laugh snapped her out of her daydream. He suddenly apologized for laughing and acted as if he were the most nervous person on the planet. But what did he possibly have to be nervous about? Certainly it had nothing to do with her. She didn't know it, but Avery didn't see herself very clearly. When she looked at herself, all she saw was a short, skinny girl with dull brown hair and green eyes. And she'd never had a boyfriend before, ever. That just convinced her that she was right about herself. Nothing special at all. So the only reason this guy was nervous, she figured, was because they'd run into each other.
And probably because she couldn't stop staring at him; either one. It took a moment for him to reply to her question about school, but he did, and she wondered how she hadn't noticed him before. The school wasn't too big. But then again, Avery was not exactly a social butterfly. She liked to have time to herself to read and focus on her photography. That didn't really leave time to make friends. Avery realized that the guy in front of her was speaking again. His name was Oliver. She swore she felt her knees go weak when he said his name. Oliver. She loved it. They shook hands, and Avery smiled at him. Only two minutes with him and she was head over heels. That was so unlike her, and she wondered what it was about Oliver that made her so crazy. But it was very hard to think when his eyes were locked on hers.
He continued to stare, and she did the same. After a few minutes, he ran a hand through his hair and looked away. He was still nervous, she could tell. They couldn't just stand here, and so Avery said the first thing that came to mind. "Do you want to walk around? With me? Not that you have to or anything," she added quickly, tucking some hair behind her ear. Well, this was going fabulously. What else could she do to humiliate herself?

He watched her actions closely. Enjoying every moment that was made. He remembered when he was a sophomore a lady approached him and offered him a job at a modeling agency. Seeing as though he didn't think of himself as good looking at all he turned it down thinking the lady to be making fun of him even though she was sincere about it. It hurt his feelings a little, thinking that he was publicly humiliated. He often had his feelings hurt, making him become the awkward person he is now. He asked a girl to a dance when he was younger and she turned him down for a no reason known to him. The truth was that she thought that he was just joking with her, like she would have no chance with him ever.
All of this led to a complex in the mind of Oliver that he was unsightly or ugly in some way. His parents always told him otherwise but he became a shut away for a majority of his junior year at the school. Some kids vaguely remember when he was social and friendly. For lack of better words he was popular but he just let it all go because he thought so little of himself. He never met anyone whom could help him defeat his inferiority complex. But for some reason just looking at this girl made him just feel like there was something she saw when she looked at him just as he did when he looked at her. As if it doesn't matter how he looks in anyone's eyes but hers, her beautiful eyes.
Oliver smiled at her offer "I love yo...ahem....I'd love to" he stammered well that was weird and unintentional he thought. He gestured his hand down the path for her to lead "I've got a whole day off from everything anyway" he finished answering as he started to head in the direction with her "Just, uhm, watch your step...don't want you tripping anymore" he joked with a grin

It took him so long to say a few words to her. Again, she was completely confused. He had nothing to be shy or nervous about, not at all. If anything, she should have been the one stammering and laughing. And yet she was able to stay somewhat calm. She wondered why that was. Maybe it was because she was changing, becoming less shy. That would have been fantastic, but she'd been shy for eighteen years, and she doubted that would change right now. It would take months for her to be able to be confident. She shook her head and tried to focus on the moment. "I love yo...ahem....I'd love to," Oliver replied, and she felt her eyes widen a little. Was he about to say that he...loved her? Impossible. She must have been going crazy. There was no way, not even in a million years that he would ever like someone like her. He gestured in the direction she'd been walking in a while ago and spoke. "I've got a whole day off from everything anyway." She smiled and started walking, occasionally glancing at him. He was so gorgeous...
"Just, uhm, watch your step...don't want you tripping anymore." She lifted her head and sighed, narrowing her eyes and pretending to be insulted. "Yeah, I'll keep that in mind," she said sarcastically. After a moment, she grinned and looked down at her feet. She was a klutz, and she'd been that way her entire life. Even small things like a paper cut made her think she was the unluckiest person ever. But then again, she'd run into Oliver. That had to have been a sign. So maybe it wasn't so bad after all. Avery realized that they were both silent, and she tried to think of something to say. "So...what do you do? At the school I mean," she said, clarifying. He was probably a model since he was so good looking. It made perfect sense, and again made Avery think that she didn't belong with him. She held her camera a little tighter to calm herself down while she waited for his reply.

Oliver kept his steady pace as he walked beside her. He was pretty excited that she was there on this day. Otherwise he'd just be lonely again. Wandering aimlessly by himself to who knows where. No one would ask about him or wonder where he was. He'd just disappear. But for some reason he always stayed. He didn't have a reason to before but now he did, he knew he had a true purpose to be around for. He breathed in the fresh scent of his surroundings and the warmth of it all engorged him. It was a flighty feeling but it was well worth the moment it was seizing from him.
"Oh, at school I'm an acting major. I'm a Shakespeare kind of guy" he joked as they continued walking "How long have you been going to St. Thomas?" he asked figuring he'd shed his shyness and grow some courage to talk to the girl. It was his way of trying to impress her. If he could show he was charismatic and friendly perhaps she could see his actions as legitimate and sincere. The benefit of which would be her actually knowing of a way that he could express these instant feelings which he know will grow with time.
The wind blew and a draft of her sweet scented hair caught him with its smell. It was intoxicating and wonderful to him. It made his mind wander to a foreign place where that scent was forever powerful. That world seemed like the land of his wildest dreams. He would trek it for days admiring all it brings. As he awoke from his day dream he looked over to her with a short smile "Are you a senior?" he asked wondering how old she was. After all it would make things for him very odd if she were a freshman.

This was turning out to be a better day than she thought. She was glad to have time to spend with Oliver. He was charming, that was for sure. "Oh, at school I'm an acting major. I'm a Shakespeare kind of guy." Avery could have kicked herself. Of course he was an actor. That made sense to her. When he said Shakespeare, she grinned and looked up at him. "Really? What's your favorite play?" she asked, curious. After a moment, she spoke again. "I always liked Romeo and Juliet myself." It was true, she loved Romeo and Juliet. Even though it was a tragedy, it was the most romantic thing in the world. Two star-crossed lovers who gave up their lives for each other and stayed together no matter what.
Yes, that was Avery: the hopeless romantic. She'd always dreamed of meeting a guy with that kind of devotion. She wondered if Oliver was like that. He probably had a girlfriend that he loved a whole lot. As that thought registered, she couldn't help but feel jealous. The idea of him being with another girl made her angry. "How long have you been going to St. Thomas?" She sighed then, relieved that he'd moved on to another subject. "Since freshman year. But before that I went to school in Seattle. We moved here for...a change of scenery I guess." She looked back down at her feet. She could still remember the day she'd moved here. At first, she'd hated it. But now she was beginning to like it.
There was silence again, but after a few minutes, Oliver broke it. "Are you a senior?" She nodded and looked up at him again. "Are you?" she asked. It hadn't occurred to her that he could be younger than her. Although she highly doubted that. He seemed mature enough.

His heart skipped a beat instantly as she mentioned Romeo and Juliet. The tragedy of love. It was his favorite but he didn't want to look like a nerd that agreed with everything so he figured he'd play it safe "That's good, but I'm a bigger fan of Twelfth Night" he lied wincing a bit and gave in "Yet now that I think about it Romeo and Juliet was way better" he admitted feeling relived. He let out a small sigh from this relief. It all seemed so much easier for him now.
He smiled at this, knowing that he didn't really have much special to say or anything. "I never really was anywhere else. I transferred here when I was a freshman, no one really noticed me around here, giving reason to why I've never had a girlfriend" he forgot to catch himself and not mention the last statement. He thought of how much of a loser he seemed at that point and how thoughtless of an action saying that was. He felt fairly down for saying so. He could feel that she was getting more accustomed to the area and he felt like her presence was worth all the years of waiting.
He smiled at this. She was a senior too, it was almost too perfect. "Yeah, I am. Seventeen years waiting to be one" he joked with a smile. As he finished his statement he began to hope that she wasn't involved with anyone. Yet he knew that she had to be taken, no girl that beautiful is single. His luck would just be too heavy if that were true.

"That's good, but I'm a bigger fan of Twelfth Night." She loved everything Shakespeare. "That's a good one too," she replied, looking up at him once and then looking away. "Yet now that I think about it Romeo and Juliet was way better." She laughed. "Yeah, that one always gets me. I'm a hopeless romantic," she said, slightly teasing. She fought back a blush. Now that he knew that about her, he probably thought she was just crazy. Besides, what guy would want a girl who got all sappy about everything? Although he did like the same things she did. She didn't know many guys who liked Shakespeare. Maybe he was different.
Avery realized as she walked with Oliver that, after this, they wouldn't be able to really spend that much time together. He was in a different major, and they were both probably going to be super busy. She felt sad about that, and wished there was some way she could just hang out with him every day. He suddenly started speaking, catching her off guard. "I never really was anywhere else. I transferred here when I was a freshman, no one really noticed me around here, giving reason to why I've never had a girlfriend." Again, she laughed. "That's a good one," she said, looking up at him. His face made her stop. He looked completely serious. Her mouth fell open a little. "Are you serious? How is that possible? You're...I mean, that's silly!" she exclaimed, almost going into a full-on rant.
Did the girls here have no common sense at all? He was a great guy! And, if she'd had the chance, she would have dated him. She would have asked him right then to be her boyfriend, but he was way out of her league. Doing that would only humiliate her. The topic changed soon after. "Yeah, I am. Seventeen years waiting to be one." She smiled at him again. They'd been walking for a while, and she had no idea what else she could say to him. "So...why were you at the park today?" she asked, immediately regretting it. She really couldn't think of anything interesting to say.

Oliver felt a little embarrassed. He had made it seem that he was a bit wimpy already. He of course wanted to be honest but he didn't want to look like a weakling or a nerd. It was really downing for him. He looked down to the ground where he was stepping slightly foolishly, having a conflict of interests as to whether he should or shouldn't lie about himself to make himself look cool. He chose the latter, deciding that if he wanted to look his best he should be completely honest and true to her.
The look on her face when she thought he wasn't serious stung for a moment as he thought she was preparing to make fun of him but was surprised by what she had to say. He could almost swear she was surprised because she thought he would've had a girlfriend or something. it was beyond confusing for him. "I guess I really just didn't really care to have one back then. I just started to think about it." He answered her with an innocent smile. He felt a little relieved "I mean, do you think about your boyfriend's ex's at all?" he jokingly asked in a creative way of asking if she had a boyfriend at all.
It was a tough think to explain. Why was he at the park? For only one reason. To get away, to relax and concentrate when life gets him down. When all the actions done by school-mates get to be too much for him. It was his solace. Here he could prepare for a role to perform or run his lines by himself. "It's like home to me" he stated realizing what it was for him "I feel safe and better here" he explained and smiled. He never really could just open up to people. It was so automatic with her, he couldn't restrain at all from it.

How could someone like Oliver not have a girlfriend? There had to be at least one girl that liked him. At that, she felt her face burn. She did know one girl; her. After she questioned him about a girlfriend, he looked over at her. "I guess I really just didn't really care to have one back then. I just started to think about it." She raised an eyebrow at that. He didn't want a girlfriend? She wondered why that was. "I mean, do you think about your boyfriend's ex's at all?" She shook her head. "I don't have a boyfriend. Who would want to date me?" she joked, although she was completely serious. There was nothing special about her. Her appearance was so average. She shook her head again and looked down at her feet.
When she asked him about the park, he hesitated before speaking. "It's like home to me. "I feel safe and better here." She looked up at him and saw that he was smiling. She smiled back. "Yeah, it is nice here," she agreed. They continued to walk, and she wondered what time it was. Soon she would need to head back to school and develop her pictures. Avery looked at Oliver again and slowed her pace. "Um...Oliver? I know we just started talking. And I'm not that pretty or...popular or anything. But...maybe we could hang out sometime. Not like a date, unless you want it to be," she added, talking extremely fast now.
Her face went even more red, and she had to try very hard to keep from just walking away and not looking back. She'd just humiliated herself.
