Beckett College: a beautiful campus, some of the best professors and educators on the East coast, and one of the best athletics programs out there, all located in the beautiful town of Blackwood, New Jersey. What more could you ask for?
Founded in 1905 by Leroy Beckett, this small but exceptional school has earned a reputation for its excellent equestrian program, outstanding Architecture and Agriculture departments, and consistently successful Division II basketball team.
The grounds are beautiful, situated on an expanse of eight hundred gently rolling acres of meticulously landscaped and well manicured land. With a student cap of 5,000, Beckett College is rather difficult to gain acceptance to. However, this also means smaller class sizes and a less crowded campus in general.
Although Beckett College certainly provides students with a top notch education, there is so much more to this school than classes and grades. Visitors and new students often remark on how personable and helpful everyone on campus is, and how there is such a strong sense of community and school spirit. There are a multitude of ways to get involved with the school, from athletic teams to clubs of all kinds. Altogether, the Beckett College experience is exceptionally rich and satisfying and sends students out into the world with the experience and impressive credentials needed to get the best jobs, create a fulfilling and successful life, and truly make a difference in the world.
In addition to academic and athletic excellence, something that really stands out at Beckett is the Equestrian Team. Tryouts for the team are almost as cutthroat as they are for basketball, and you need to know your stuff if you’re going to compete for Beckett. Students can sign up for lessons and either bring their own horse or lease one of the many fabulous horses at the Blackwood Equestrian Center. Riders have the chance to sign up for various horse shows held throughout the year, but only a select few are able to be on the Intercollegiate Team and compete within the IHSA, the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association. Rob Carson, the coach and trainer for Beckett, is one of the best professional riders and instructors in the country. Riders travel from miles away to take lessons with him and attend his clinics. Students at Beckett have it easy compared to some who have tried to train with Rob.
A small, safe town just minutes away from big cities, a top notch education, an athlete's paradise; so many doors are wide open for you. The question is...are you ready to step up?
